Snail Mail

Pecah Kaca Pecah Gelas,
Lepas Baca Harap Balas,

Pecah Kaca Pecah Tong,
Lepas Baca Harap Gantung,

Yesterday one of my cousin upload the picture of Raya postcard that i wrote to her family in the FB. I sent it on 21.07.2012 and my cousin receive it on 28.07.2012. Only one week took this pieces of paper travel from Germany to Malaysia.

This year i send Raya postcard to all my family members in Malaysia. I taught it take around over one month to delivery my Raya wishes to them. I was quite shocked, too fast for me.

On FB comment about this Raya postcard, one of my old chinese friend mention about the "Snail Mail".

She said " Nothing beats the classic snail mail and postcards :) sweet!".
I reply to her " Leng Lui, sometimes classical mail have more value to remember".
And then she reply back " Yeah...Couldn't agree more. I personally prefers snail-mail especially the excitement of opening a letter wondering who sent it and what is inside. It is like opening present. Then you get to see how is hand writing is so much like the sender. Lastly, it will bring back so much memories when you read it again years later".

When the last time u receive snail mail or Raya Card from your friends?

From Wiki,
"Snail mail or smail is a dysphemistic retronym-named after the snail with its slow speed-used to refer to letters and missives carried by conventional postal delivery services. The phares refers to the lag time between dispacth of a letter and its receipt, versus the virtually instantaneous dispatch and delivery of its electronic equivalent, e-mail.

It is also known, more neutrally, as paper mailpostal mailland mail, or simply mail or post. An earlier term of the same type is surface mail, coined retrospectively after the development of airmail.
Snail mail is also a term used in reference to penpalling. Snail mail penpals are those penpals that communicate with one another through the postal system, rather than on the internet which has become the more common medium.
Some online groups also use paper mail through regular gift or craft hot topics. In some countries, services are available to print and deliver emails to those unable to receive email, like people with no computers or internet access.
Similar terminology was used in the 1840s to contrast the already-operating postal mail with the new telegraph. The Philadelphia North American stated: "The markets will no longer be dependent upon snail paced mails"..."

Signs of native Germans

1.  Waiting for the green man
It's the classic expat experience, cross a road, nonchalantly scoffing at the over-obedient Germans waiting for the pedestrian crossing to turn green.

Me : hermm yeap good discipline that becoming my current behavior.

2. Panic shopping on a Saturday at 1:05pm
At the stroke of 5pm on a week day and 1pm on a Saturday, every single shop everywhere in German simply closes for business also in public holidays

Me : so I need to alert when is Germany public holidays and my food stocks, if not haiyooo "kebulur wooooo"

3. Eating a kebab while sober

In Germany, where the abundant Turkish community has turned the kebab into a tasty treat and a sensible dinner option.

Me : so far delicious kebab i had eaten is in Taklamakan, Uyghur chinese owner rest. near the Munich Main Central Train Station.

4. Irritated about tardy public transport

German people may feel a sudden spasm of rage when a well-lit information board informs that must wait couple of minutes because of  train delay.

Me : in my home country I can be patient to wait public transport until half an hour but at here train delay about 5 minutes I'm starting grouch.

5. Carrying a bottle around all day for the deposit

It's only 25 cents - but it's 25 cents, once collected four that will be one euro. In Germany every recycle bottle will be charge 25 cent per bottle as deposit. Once they refund this bottle, they will get back their deposit.

Me : I learn new thing, when you give some value to some thing, people will appreciate it.

6. Wearing Birkenstock sandals as slippers

Minded of Germans think that the best way to manage the health of their foot arches is to choose Germany's most famous orthopaedic footwear while relaxing at home.

Me : hermm I'm not try yet.

7.  Being comfortable naked body in front of family members.

During a long hot summer, Germans can't imagine anything more relaxing than playing frisbee with their grannies - naked. It takes years of living in Germany to shed the psychological shackles associated with swinging private parts freely in front of family members.

Me : hahaha this part "memang aku tak sanggup nak buat"....

Summer time come back, no football but still busy.

Summer time come back. Not like previous summer, no weekend football. Less of players because some of them moving to another area. Furthermore my little hero so tight with me, always want to follow everywhere i go even go to toilet.

Hermm but this summer time I am still busy. Right now i join German language class "sparchkurse" at mosque every Sunday and after Friday prayer. This free adult class was conducted by Mr Ekkehard a middle age German man. Purpose of this class to help foreigners mostly students and immigrant to understand and  learn right language to reduce the gap between the local community. (Hot issue in Germany right now immigrant from Turkey and Arabs had problems to adopt local culture and language). Sadly not many members want to join this class or consistence attending this classes. This week they coming and then next week they not show up but next following week they come back again like chipsmore "kejap ada, kejap tak ada". But i think this phenomena is common for adult class. Too many reasons.

Mr Ekkehard is very nice person. He come to the mosque before Friday prayer and sit together with us hearing khutbah by Imam. I don't know why, while he can come after prayer. At the first sight i taught he teach us as voluntary. But one day, after the class we went to coffee session. One of my clique paid for his coffee and he little bit reluctant. My clique said "Allah will pay for your kindness teach us " and then Mr Ekkehard reply back "Don't worry mayor pay me for this job". Hehehehe I'm smiling and i admit what one of my friend said (she married with Germany) "in German nothing free".
